All internee officers and inspectors except the Super- intendent (who goes immediately) have been repatriated; military personnel replace the Inspectors, the last of the Indians are being repatriated at an early date and are temporarily being replaced by Fortuguese.
Stanley prison and the prison quarters are in good repair; one block has been converted into a camp for war criminals, another for Quislings and Renegades; there are 150 prisoners. The remand prison at Central is damaged; Laichikok female prison and the reformatory have been demolished. Female prisoners for the time being are housed at Stanley. Some records are still available.

The Chief Officer has practically the whole of his pre- war Asiatic staff and is prepared to carry on without replacing Inspectors. This branch is already functioning satisfactorily but in the absence of ambulances, the former ambulance service has not started. Most of the appliances, engines and floats are serviceable, though two large engines were removed to Tokyo.
PREVENTIVE:
All the records of personnel are intact.
Nothing has yet been done towards taking over the executive functions of the I. & E. department.
IMMIGRATION: There is no acute problem at present.

Action is being taken to ascertain Government
Tiability in respect of A.R.P/.services.
AUXILARY FIRE SERVICE: Similar action will have to be undertaken to that re A.R.P. General. It seems likely that the great majority of interned officers will be fit enough to return to duty eventually.
